Over the years, I’ve developed commercial AI applications ranging from handwriting recognition and biometrics to credit card reading systems, alongside research in reinforcement learning for robotics. Currently, I’m pursuing an ambitious and challenging new approach to reinforcement learning—one that emphasizes reliability, explainability, and hierarchical extensibility. This work, now over five years in development, has the potential to significantly advance fine-grained intelligent control for robots operating in complex environments.
Designed a series of robotic arms and hands for NASA, including a spacesuit-compatible mechanical hand that received a NASA Space Act Award. Invented a micromanipulator enabling precise five-dimensional motion transfer from an operator’s hand, along with advanced mechanisms for remote surgical procedures. Served as a robotics expert witness in high-profile legal cases, providing both trial and deposition testimony.
Licensed several technologies over the years, starting with a gyroscopic walking mechanism that was licensed to Bandai toy company and was a hit in Japan. Developed voice-to-instrument technology and licensed to Sharper Image and Yamaha for various products, including Yamaha’s EZ Trumpet.
